Palmer and Ford ready to move forward

As demonstrated by my frequent links to his work, I believe Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times is one of the best writers out there covering the Oakland Raiders.  He’s done it again, this time with an article about Carson Palmer and Jacoby Ford looking to move ahead after their miscues on Monday night.

In the article, Palmer and Ford say exactly what I would expect; they aren’t concerned about their lack of chemistry on Monday night.  Palmer’s decision to throw the long ball that resulted in an interception wasn’t a shock.  The Raiders are going to look to the deep pass this year, and Palmer is known for throwing his fair share of interceptions.  More of the shock came from the play of Jacoby Ford.  He didn’t seem like the breakout star Oakland Raiders fans saw in his limited role over the past two seasons.

If Ford does continue to struggle, I could see Dennis Allen looking to take some of the pressure off of him for a bit.  Ford will already probably start the season as the #3 receiver behind Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore.  But, if need be, Allen could use speedster Taiwan Jones as a return man to give Ford a break.  Speed is one thing the Raiders usually have going for them, and this year is no different.  While Oakland lacks depth in some areas, they do have some cushion to ensure Ford is 100% mentally and physically ready to play a major role in 2012.
