DHB looks ready to go

In his mid-week notes, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports Raiders’ wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is fully practicing and should be good-to-go for Sunday’s game in Atlanta.   Heyward-Bey took a nasty shot a couple of weeks ago vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He’s apparently utilizing the “get right back on the horse” mindset.  Good for him.

While Derek Hagan filled in for DHB admirably, Heyward-Bey is the far better receiver.  Even if the ball is not thrown to him, DHB is such a speed threat that Atlanta’s defense will have to worry about him.  Many “experts” consider Atlanta the best team in the NFL right now.  The same experts consider Oakland one of the worst teams.  If the Raiders want to have a chance this Sunday, they need to have as many weapons on the field as they can.  DHB is one of their offensive leaders.  One year after the death of Al Davis, if DHB can bounce back Sunday from his injury, he can continue to justify Davis’ belief in him.

It’s going to be just like the Steeler game…the Raiders are going to have to play perfect, in all phases, to have a shot at beating the Falcons…but, remember, in 2002, 4-0 Raiders were shocked by 0-5 Rams…on any given Sunday…

The Raiders HAVE to do something I think they’ve needed to do all year yet haven’t; win the trench war. The corners can’t hang with Atlanta’s receivers, so the pass rush HAS to show up. On the other side of the field, the offensive line needs to show some signs of life before someone gets hurt, like Palmer or Run-DMC.
