All quiet on the Chris Cooley front

The Washington Redskins cut tight end Chris Cooley on Tuesday, and some expected Cooley to wearing the Silver and Black by Wednesday.  So far, nothing.  Cooley himself has remained quiet on the matter.  Though not much of an active Twitter poster anyway, one might think he would have had something to say about the manner, yet his page remains quiet.

If the Raiders are serious about looking at Cooley, I would think they’d want to get him in and suited up before Thursday’s final preseason game against Seattle.  Money could be a sticking point.  The Raiders have shown that they are going to be bargain hunters, using the last of their salary cap space to hunt down potential values after other teams make their cuts.  Cooley may have been cut, but there is a good chance he’ll still be one of the highest-profile players available.  Like Cedric Benson, he may not be willing to play for what Oakland offers him, should they be interested.

At this point, Brandon Myers is still Oakland’s current starting tight end.  While Raiders fans were used to seeing Zach Miller or Kevin Boss making big players, Myers has the ability to start for Oakland.  I doubt the Cooley front will remain quiet much longer; if he wants to play in 2012, he will.
